I enjoy the flexibility of working as a designer with and competing in the many diverse and interesting contests offered. Helping contest holders find the perfect solution to meet their design needs are challenges I enjoy. The administration, support and designers are top-notch, and it's wonderful to be part of a design community that offers such a great service.

Entries: 525 Wins: 38 has helped me grow in a creative and exciting way, and I continue to welcome the new challenges that each contest brings. The support of the administration and their guidelines really look out for the interests of both the designer AND the contest holders.
    I’m inspired!

VIDEO & PODCAST PLAYER DESIGN! Help us make our design look slick, modern and versatile. We are a start-up serving professional and scholarly organizations. We are building an enhanced video player that features extensive functionality. The player is mostly built out, but its design needs to be refined. We are not looking for major changes, but to professionalize the existing design and add some missing responsive views. This player will not be branded, as it is intended to display in an iframe on our clients' sites. The winning design will be both as neutral as possible so it can be embedded into any website, and as professional-looking as possible. Note that it also need to be compliant with accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.0 level AA).

The player can currently be accessed at It features lots of functionality (some still in not quite working, but most of it shown on this prototype except for a couple of features described below).
We need:
• advice on how to make the look & feel look more professional and slick (colors, fonts, proportions, layout), including on all the tabs, icons and menus.
• advice on all the responsive views (e.g. improve mobile views)
• extra feature: a "visual table of contents" that allows users to navigate the contents of a video by clicking on segment thumbnails and, within each segment, on thumbnails captured at regular intervals (or, for example, 10 thumbnails per segment), overlaying the video frame with a control in the top control bar in the player (next to "full screen")
• extra feature: segment marks on the progress bar, featuring the title of the segment and the start and end times
• better icons for: -30/+30 jump, citations (needs to be a quote mark rather than a T), playback rates switch (not shown on player yet)
• a way to jump between search results
• a way to select start and end points (for creating clips to embed, bookmark or share) from the progress bar and from the transcript (currently it is only possible to do so by entering the time manually in the menus)
• two versions of the player, one with a dark background and one with a white background
• one extra view (not shown on the prototype) for cases when the player is embedded into a frame with limited height AND width, so the full video and right-hand-side tabs cannot be shown at the same time, either to the right or below; in that case, the user should be able to easily toggle between the video and the transcript (and potentially have a mini-video playing as they are reading the transcript)
• one extra view for podcasts (not shown on the prototype): adaptations to enable the navigation of podcasts with a transcript are welcome!
• any other suggestion is welcome!
